You've got to be kidding, they thought that LED lights were BOMBS?! What has this world come to. Jeez. Like a terrorist would put lights on their bombs, really now.
Jeffrey Carl Fadenjeffreyatw on February 1st, 2007 05:38 am (UTC)
ummmm I don't quite think that's the entirety of the situation.
Antagonist77antagonist77 on February 1st, 2007 05:40 am (UTC)
Oh?
Jeffrey Carl Fadenjeffreyatw on February 1st, 2007 05:56 am (UTC)
I don't think they were scared of the lights, they were scared of what might have been attached to the lights in the small boxes. It's still fucking retarded, but I don't think anyone thought lights were bombs.

But actually, domestic terrorism has seen vandalism associated with it. Although this is quite obviously an ATHF marketing ploy, it's not entirely stupid to assume that dangerous stuff can have decorations on it...
Antagonist77antagonist77 on February 1st, 2007 05:59 am (UTC)
Yeah but it's like thinking OMG anything with lights attached to it is a fucking bomb. Bah, honestly. I think it's retarded that this whole thing happened. It's depressing.
Elliott Kelleyhastis_epigeios on February 1st, 2007 10:11 am (UTC)
it was the deuce that got people scared, not the lights :P
beauseizure on February 1st, 2007 03:06 pm (UTC)
But it is entirely stupid to assume that every decoration must be dangerous.
Sparrowchironsoldier on February 1st, 2007 06:31 am (UTC)
aka battery-operated lite brite = bomb

nice.

I thought these were just a bunch of shopped pics when I skimmed through them. But now I'm watching the report on Nightline that these were bombs and and I'm going, "Whoa... Hahaha!" Seriously though, I can understand how they were thought to be bombs. I can also see the massive free marketing generated for this movie. The box office returns should determine either its genius or insanity.

Who the fuck could ever possibly fly airplanes into the twin towers?

Ok, that's kind of a ridiculous comparison, but it's the same line of thinking for the people who become alarmed at these kinds of situations. Sure, it's fairly improbable. But it could happen.

Was it not clear that I intended for the analogy to be terrible and ridiculous? I mean, I said that the analogy was ridiculous in my post.

Someone actually did hide plastic explosives in their shoe and very nearly set them off on an airplane, btw.

I still think Security Theater is stupid.

... a guy DID put a bomb in his shoes. That's why we had to start taking them off. Don't you remember the story about that? He was trying to light his shoes on fire and the woman next to him went "...O_o wtf?" and then people subdued him. Oi.
Jeffrey Carl Fadenjeffreyatw on February 2nd, 2007 05:59 am (UTC)
Simeon you should probably read better before you post comments like this.
Simeonagtmadcat on February 3rd, 2007 09:49 am (UTC)
Read a little deeper. When was the last time a terrorist device had a friggin light-up cartoon on it?
Jeffrey Carl Fadenjeffreyatw on February 3rd, 2007 07:13 pm (UTC)
What does this have to do with your previous comment? Bob was being sarcastic.
Simeonagtmadcat on February 3rd, 2007 10:33 pm (UTC)
I know.

Never mind.

And, good gracious but it's refreshing to see somebody (thing?) giving O'Reilly the finger...

So I guess the planned Simpsons Movie Campaign involving 100 nuclear power plants around the world is probably going to be a no-go now, huh? =(
Simeonagtmadcat on February 3rd, 2007 10:35 pm (UTC)
Nono, it's still on. They're just going to put up big portraits of Mohammed so that people will know it's not an islamist nuclear power plant, what with the no pictures of the prophet thing they've got going on. We're pretty sure we've got this plan foolproof...
